Why Air Conveyor Systems are Ideal for Lightweight Products

From processing to packaging, the food and beverage industry relies on pneumatic (air) and mechanical conveyor systems to get the work done. While both are capable of efficiently moving lightweight products, there are several advantages to using pneumatic conveyors, and that’s where we come in. At Air Con Tech Systems, we specialize in manufacturing custom air conveyors that are ideal for rapidly moving lightweight products along the production line. Let’s take a look at four key reasons why it makes great sense to utilize an air conveyor system for lightweight product applications.

Speed and Volume

For lightweight food products such as flowers, sugars, instant foods, grains and other granular or powdered items, air conveyors are hard to beat. That’s because they operate at higher speeds compared to mechanical conveyor systems, and that allows you to push higher volumes down the line during any given period of time. In fact, air conveyors are about three times faster than mechanical systems – capable of moving up to 350 cups (containers) per minute, depending on the cup’s material (aluminum, plastic, foam … etc.), size and the configuration of the air conveyor system itself.

Cost-Effective

Mechanical conveyor systems can be significantly more expensive than air conveyors, especially for lightweight product applications. They require numerous moving parts, belts, bearings, and ongoing maintenance, all of which increase material and labor costs throughout the conveyor’s lifecycle. Air conveyor systems, on the other hand, require little more than an initial investment, which makes them a more economical, cost-effective solution for moving lightweight products in cups down the production line.

Highly Configurable

Limited space can create headaches for plant managers and, for many lightweight product applications, bulky mechanical conveyors simply take up too much of it.  That’s not a problem with air conveyor systems, which are highly configurable and require very little real estate on the plant floor.

Importantly, and unlike mechanical systems, air conveyors can move products in any direction within the plant to reach the next stop on the production line, such as filling, labelling, weighing and inspection. This flexibility enhances efficiencies and creates opportunities to increase production – all of which help grow your top and bottom lines.

Low Maintenance

Air conveyors move lightweight cups and containers at high rates of speed, and we know there’s no good time for a slowdown or downtime at your plant. The good news is that, unlike mechanical conveyors that require continuous investments in parts and repairs, air conveyor systems are simple and cost-effective to maintain. They are extremely reliable, and you’re highly unlikely to experience any significant problems that will slow production or create unexpected costs.

Final Thoughts

When choosing a conveyor system that’s ideal for lightweight products, air conveyors make great sense. They keep your production lines moving fast and increase your throughput. They’re also more cost-effective and configurable when compared to mechanical conveyor systems, and they’re simple to maintain.
